Rules and eligibility requirements. |
| 1. |
The Derby is open to everyone except the Derby Staff. |
| 2. |
Applicants may fish from the shoreline, a party boat, charter boat or a
private boat. All fish must be brought to a measurement station. |
| 3. |
All participants must comply with Coast Guard laws and rules, local
enforcement laws
as well as New York State DEC and New Jersey DEP laws and IGFA rules. |
| 4. |
If competing in a private boat ALL OCCUPANTS must be entered in the Derby.
The only exception is a charter crew in the performance of a
charter. |
| 5. |
Only one fish per species per angler will be considered in awarding any
prizes. However, as long as you
are in compliance with state laws you may continue to submit larger fish while the
measurement stations are open. Overall, only the largest fish you enter of each
species will count towards any prizes. e.g. if you submit a 32 inch fish at 8:00 AM
and go back out and catch a 36 inch fish you will be able to submit that. |
| 6. |
Any fish that is frozen, gaffed, foul hooked, snagged or caught in an
unsporting manner as per IGFA*
rules will be disqualified. No treble hooks may be used while live bait
fishing. |
| 7. |
Fishing shall begin Friday May 8 at 8:00 PM and continue until 5 PM on
Saturday May 9, 2009. |
| 8. |
Fish measurement times will be from 8 AM to 5 PM. Stations will close
promptly at 5:00 PM Saturday and any fish brought in after that time will be disqualified. |
| 9. |
The official measurement stations are located at the Shattemuc Yacht Club in
Ossining, NY, at the Liberty Landing Marina in Jersey City, on the Atlantis Princess
party boat, at the Atlantis Marina in Staten Island and at the Twin Lights Marina in

| 10. |
All winning anglers may be subject to a polygraph examination if requested.
A Grand Prize of at least $5000.00 will be awarded to the highest scoring fish of
the derby. |
| 11. |
The highest scoring fish will be determined by length and release status.
In the case of a tie, the fish presented for measurement at the earliest time will be
declared the highest scoring.
If two fish have the same length and release status the one entered at the earliest time
will be eligible to win the grand prize. |
| 12. |
A 2 inch bonus will be added to the length of each fish entry that is released
alive. (Grand Prize fish included)
The measurement station judges will determine if a fish qualifies as a live release. |
